vertigo

So I had the awesome opportunity to get onto a rooftop on wall street (thanks eric). I'm still trying to figure out why I like rooftops so much, and why I want to shoot them...

this view down made me a bit weak in the knees.

I really loved this perspective, I hope to return and shoot it 4x5!

Pigeon

Pigeons are kindof everywhere, generally though of as flying rats, not the most beautiful of birds, but I have enjoyed some recent observations of them. This one was foraging a gutter for twigs, (for building it's nest?). It flew off with a twig.

Nabbed a 70-200 for the weekend. Enjoying the flatness.

Pigeons

I've had it in mind to try and shoot pigeons in flight for a while now, After being called in to work this morning I thought I'd make the best of it and brought my camera along.

lost and found, revisited

So this morning I decided to give another try at the abandoned construction project. As I hoped I found a way up to the higher floors (including access to the roof)

I previously stated the possibility of squatters here, but after exploring it thoroughly I'm convinced to quite the opposite, abandoned office chairs, coolers, and freshly scrawled graffito adorn the walls and rooms.

between trapped pigeons and overgrown plants, this huge structure has become a relic in living neighborhood.

9/3/09

It's becoming a bit apparent to me that I'm shooting a lot at night, but more than likely thats because 5 days a week I'm inside all day. However I'm finding that always having a camera (that can shoot in nearly any light condition) with me allows me to find pictures almost anywhere. The first image is breaking down a bit, but I definately enjoy the composition.

a little something

I took this on a walk to the L the other night. I was going to wait until I had some work to compliment it, because I'm not sure how powerful it is on its own. There is something I do like about it though. I managed to make Nicole colors somehow.

Rooftoppin

So besides the video in the previous post, I shot some enjoyable stills, (including 4x5) will try to get the Large format developed soon (negs are starting to pile up)

in the meantime, 5d stuffs. Tilt/Shifting over the Williamsburg Bridge iso 2000, f2.8 full tilt, I dig the 45, but the 24 is a tad too wide for my taste

In addition to the video I shot a long series of stills, we'll see what comes of it.

Passing Time [video]

Testing 5d with high ISO and Tilt/Shift Lenses. Although I can't take credit for this concept, I must send thanks to those who turned me on to the idea. Since its widescreen format it doesn't fit too well into the blog format, I reccomend you watch High Quality (in HD) Here

brooklyns lost and found

About a month ago I read a really interesting article about the effects of the recession on all the development in brooklyn (paricularly waterfront areas like williamsburg.) A lot of projects started in the last ten years have come to a crashing halt.

Obviously these kinds of abandoned buildings aren't uncommon in any city. what I found interesting about this space was that it is in a perpetual state of a construction site, that is to say, the entire building is lit at all times, day or night. Fresh padlocks and chains block most of the entryways, and although it seems like an ideal location for squatters I found no evidence of anyone.

I have a lot more editing to do from this weekend. More to come soon.

Saturday Walk Home

This morning my hopes of sleeping in were dashed by a series of phone calls at 9am, however I made the best of it, headed into the city from kates, and took a few shots on my walk home from the L.

I have always enjoyed the freedom of SLRs, but trying to hold them level to your frame can drive me a little nuts. I'm itching to shoot some 4x5, maybe I can work something out this week.

Last nights Flicks (ISO 1600 and beyond)

I will try to be less generous in my editing, but last night I walked the williamsburg bridge and shot a lot of stuff. I realize the danger of overshooting with digi, and the wonkiness of the color in some of these. but I found it a fun test. These are in order from last to first, or from high ISO [6400] to Low [800].
